Why use Liquid Silicone as a filler?
Silicone is precise and permanent injectable filler. Silicone can be used alone or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion and chemical peels to give a natural and rejuvenated look.
Areas that are commonly treated with Liquid Injectable Silicone:
- Acne Scars or other scars such as chicken pox or surgical scars
- Nasolabial folds (“smile lines”)
- Fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, chin, and neck
- Hollows and grooves around the eyes and temples
- Lip fullness and volume
How does it work?
A licensed physician uses a very small needle to deposit micro-droplets of silicone under the skin to fill in facial defects. Then, the body begins to accept the silicone as part of its own. The process is quick, pain-free, and does not require any downtime. Cosmetic dermatology patients may experience some swelling, but that usually subsides within a few days. Patients can resume daily activities immediately following the procedure.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will usually vary patient to patient depending on the depth and nature of the treatment area. Most patients will require multiple treatments to see full improvement in the target area.
How safe is it?
The FDA concluded in 1998, after full review, that there is no evidence of a medical link between pure medical grade liquid silicone and any systemic disease.
